Rainmaker #2, one of four of this series; expressing abundance with the use of vibrant colors. The drips are memorizing on the eyes, and have an even greater effect when installed with more panels. Rainmaker represents one’s innate means to connect spiritually with the ability to produce fruit, ie. manifest.
— AVM Hawkins

During times of drought, the ability to invoke rain is a divine answer to prayer and desire. Rain can be interpreted literally, or symbolically as compensation, sustenance, and opportunity. One cannot command ‘rain;’ very similarly how one cannot command God or Mother Nature. However, we can connect with and surrender ourselves to the mystery of a Higher Power, living in unity and community with it. Becoming one with the source of all creation.

Enter

An Original Art Series by AVM Hawkins

ENTER is AVM’s debut of new work after the birth of her son. After over a year of being underground, AVM invites the viewer to literally enter into her world, the elusive indescribable world of abstraction. ENTER is designed to provide the viewer the experience of total immersion into abstract art. The exhibition embodies a series of work from large to small scale abstract paintings, designed to attract the viewer, slowly surround, until the viewer is completely submerged inside the work. Get lost inside the art, and find your Self.

ENTER involves several layers of movement, texture, contrast and color; striking a balance between surrender and control, risk and faith, beauty and complexity. Mid Main’s epic floor to ceiling windows provide the unique and extraordinary opportunity to create large scale, fully immersive works to be displayed publicly, visible and accessible to all. Allowing all to enter.

ENTER into the elusive indescribable world of abstraction. Tumble down the rabbit hole to explore a new realm you never knew existed, but now can never live without. “Enter” involves several studio sessions creating layers upon layers of mark making, movement, contrast, color, and confidence by Ashley Vignaud Marshall Hawkins. Striking a balance between risk and control. Danger and familiarity. Beauty and chaos. This series is designed to allure the viewer into the work, becoming completely submerged, expanding one’s consciousness to a point where one questions their reality. Not because they have become lost in another dimension, but because they have found clarity within themselves.

Artist Statement

“Enter” is the first series I’ve painted after becoming a mother. As a new mom, my world, perspective and priorities shifted beyond what I could have ever imagined. Who I was before, no longer exists. My ego dissolved. My sense of identity has been forgotten as I become totally immersed as a witness and participant in the growth of a brand new life. The adoration and love I have for my son and my husband is overwhelming. A love I did not realize I was capable of, but now know, is all I have ever been made of. My ambitions, goals, and aspirations pale in comparison to my desire to be the best I can be, as a mom, wife, family member, friend, artist.

I always envisioned being a mother and artist. I dreamed of doing it all: being a great attentive mother, providing full presence and attention, as well as, (somehow) simultaneously being an artist to be reckoned with. I shall achieve all of these, but without the anxiety and fear. I’m creating art again, but with the knowing that I have already achieved my wildest dreams. I am living it.

“Enter” represents an inflection point in my life and in my art, signifying a newfound inspiration and approach to art and life.
