AVM "Totes": Sneak Preview
Here is a little sneak preview of what I have been working on behind the scenes this past month. I have painting on a new medium that has invoked lots of wonderful memories of how I began painting Houston.
Before I began painting abstract art on canvases, I first started painting on clothing—hats, t-shirts, v-necks, sweatshirts, jeans, tennis shoes—you name it. Hand painting original art on clothing, transcends the traditional means of experiencing art. The art is alive. The art is a living element—traveling and interacting with the world around it, opposed to only being witnessed on an interior white wall.
In undergrad, I would wear my original painted clothes on campus at the University of Houston. I took commissions and even facilitated a photoshoot with the invaluable help of my sister. It is nice to see how much I have grown since then, 16 years ago. It is interesting how simple and perhaps such an “unrealistic” idea of painting on clothing, have come full-circle in my custom painted shoes, dresses and now, AVM Tote Bags.
This new original series channels the energy of my beloved time at the University of Houston and this creative endeavor that sparked the inspiration to become an artist / creative entrepreneur. It is so amazing, how much I have grown, yet am still connected to my true self. These totes incorporates my original fine art into a brand new way to engage with my work.
