An Artist at Work
“An Artist at Work” is an original painting on natural canvas, consisting of acrylic paint and oil pastels.
This painting was my art palette during my 3 - Month Residency at John Palmer Art Gallery. It originated as an un-stretched natural canvas, draped over my art table, graced with tubes of paint, brushes, oil pastels and palette knives.
“An Artist at Work” was never intended to become a painting. But upon packing up my studio after months of creating over 30 new original paintings, I could not help but notice that through Divine Happenstance, I’ve organically captured my creative process within a classic contemporary abstract painting.
I went ahead, built the frame, stretched the canvas, and the rest was her-story.
I love the use of negative space, the unconscious kismet placement of color and the outline of my water glass in the lower right corner. All aspects of this painting are perfect without any attempt of intention nor control.
Sometimes, the best gifts in life, are those that come freely and naturally, without merit but through grace.
