The word “Kaleidoscope” comes from three Ancient Greek words: Kalos, meaning beautiful or beauty; Eidos, meaning “that which is seen” or “form, shape;” and Skopeō, meaning “to look to” or “to examine.” When combined these words mean “observation of beautiful forms.”
AVM named this series Kaleidoscope because of the interplay of these colors, shapes and patterns that are visually memorizing, invoking memories she had as a child when looking through a kaleidoscope.
A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument that creates patterns and shapes through reflection. It is made up of mirrors that reflect images of colored glass pieces through a viewer. The patterns can be changed endlessly by rotating the section with the loose pieces.
Kaleidoscopes symbolize the endless possibilities, that can occur in any moment, with the slight shift in the change of one’s perspective.
