AVM named this series Kaleidoscope because of the interplay of these colors, shapes and patterns that are visually memorizing, invoking memories she had as a child when looking through a kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscopes symbolize the endless possibilities, that can occur in any moment, with the slight shift in the change of one’s perspective.

During times of drought, the ability to invoke rain is a divine answer to prayer and desire. Rain can be interpreted literally, or symbolically as compensation, sustenance, fruit, and opportunity. One cannot command “rain;” very similarly how one cannot command God or Mother Nature. However, we can connect with and surrender ourselves to the mystery of a Higher Power, living in communion with it. Becoming one with the source of all creation.

The Harrison Collection: Mosaic Animals
Mosaic Animals are the first set of works created for The Harrison Collection. Mosaic Animals consist of a variety of animals common among toddlers. These works incorporate AVM’s signature mosaic style. Working with paper and watercolor markers, opposed to several canvases, water, and full coffee cans of acrylic paint, was an easy way for AVM to get back into the swing of creating again, even if for a few hours a week.

A Starry Night in Houston is a painting that is inspired by Houston’s contribution and affiliation with space and technology. Houston is affectionately called “Space City.” A Starry Night in Houston combines Houston’s Space City symbolism with AVM’s iconic color-filled designs. In A Starry Night in Houston, AVM maintains her signature style but takes it a step further by adding images of the NASA logo, space photography of the moon and atmosphere, rocket and space station into the work. These images are intertwined within and throughout the entire painting; the images and abstractions unified yet, identifiable only by the contrast of colors.

IMPETUS reflects on the “why” behind AVM Hawkins’ intangible desire + chronic impulse to create. IMPETUS includes all of AVM’s various styles of abstract expressionism developed from her lifetime of creating art.
IMPETUS embodies a collection of AVM’s various art styles, inspired by her free-hand designs and love for color, as well as AVM’s contemporary abstract expressionistic paintings containing bold movements, gestures, texture and mixed media. IMPETUS showcases AVM’s talent for creating grand, contemporary paintings, perfect for designing any residential or commercial space.
